When you’re looking to go away on vacation, there are two types of accommodations you can choose from: city hotels and countryside hotels. Both have their pros and cons, but if you’re looking to completely escape the hustle and bustle of city life, countryside hotels can be just what you need. However, with so many different country hotels to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one will suit your needs best. Here are some factors to consider when choosing the best countryside hotel for your next trip away from home.

Do I need a hotel with an on-site restaurant?

It depends. If you’re looking for a long stay, you might want one with a restaurant for convenience, but it’s also helpful if there’s a restaurant within walking distance so you can take advantage of local cuisine and prices. Otherwise, you will need to plan on eating out every time you get hungry or look for facilities that allow for cooking in your room. Hotels without an on-site restaurant are sometimes significantly cheaper than those with one however it depends on whether you value convenience.

Are there enough activities around the hotel?

If you are a vacationer, you want to go on adventures and take part in outdoor activities. If you can’t find those around your hotel, it might not be worth it for you. Ask if there are parks, lakes, hiking trails or even places where you can ride horses nearby. If they’re all too far away then don’t choose that hotel unless what they offer is important enough to skip these activities. At a hotel in Caernarfon you are guaranteed plenty of things to do, from thrill-seeking adventures to slower-paced activities.

What is there near my room?

Ideally, your hotel will be located in a place that has something for you to do. Some good options are restaurants, shops and bars—but if all you want is peace and quiet after a long day exploring, it’s also nice if there’s greenery within walking distance. A park or natural feature like a river is ideal; at least you’ll have something interesting to look at while you drink your beer. While many cities are destinations in their own right, often hotels situated near tourist attractions offer additional perks like souvenir shops (meaning it’s easy to stock up on mementos) and tour operators (should you wish to book a tour without having to go through any hassle).

Will breakfast be included in my booking price, or should I book separately.

For many people, breakfast is a highlight of any hotel stay. There’s something about starting your day with a substantial meal that makes you feel like you’re on holiday (even if it is just at home!). If you can afford it, we recommend booking a room with breakfast included in your rate. You may think that free meals mean low quality, but that isn’t always true. In our experience, hotels offer high-quality food for their complimentary breakfast buffets; they just don’t include high-quality ingredients or all-organic options. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions and cannot eat certain items, be sure to mention them when making your reservation so that staff knows how to prepare your meal.
