The Greenwood Centre  

Trees - the largest living things that have ever existed on earth. We need them for many reasons - their products, environmental benefits, beauty and variety, to name but a few. People have depended on them throughout history, yet time and again civilisations destroy them. As we need tree products every day, we must harvest trees to provide for our needs. But we also must recognise that there are trees and forests that have to be protected and conserved.  We need to act to save such forests - even in Britain there are at least 10 native tree species that are in danger of extinction - some are only found in Wales. The Greenwood Centre supports and is actively working to promote these objectives.

• Tree World in The Great Hall - This modern 'medieval' masterpiece was built in 1993 by Adam Heath of Shropshire. The  huge frames were hewn from 40 tons of green oak, and 500 oak pegs hold the whole structure together

• Film Show - "The Forgotten Forests of Snowdonia" - a fascinating account of the forests that have disappeared, but may be coming back.

• Exhibition - Get into and onto our interactive exhibits to learn more about the amazing world of trees.

• Adventure Land - Build your own den - Follow the Tree House Trail - Get lost in the Maze - Stagger on stilts.

• Animals - Watch the peacocks and ducks - find the stick insects - stroke the bunnies.

• Crafts and Activities - Try out a Welsh longbow - Saw a log - Use a pole lathe - Lean on a half ton lever.

• Peaceful Forest Walks - Tranquil walks through the arboretum, the Welsh Rainforest Boardwalk and Rhododendron Hill.

• Sculpture Trail - Discover the wonderful wood carvings sited in the grounds. More are added each year!

• Herb Garden - Take in the colours and scents of the old cottage garden herbs.

• Shop and Cafe - Try our delicious light lunches, cakes and teas. Browse in the well stocked Gift Shop.
